The GYROKINESIS® Method

Fern Leaves

The Gyrokinesis method is a series of gentle movements that work the entire body. While performing Gyrokinesis exercises, you will experience the opening of  energetic pathways, an increase in your range of motion, and greater strength through the rhythmic, flowing movements. Developed after an injury, Juliu Horvath was inspired by his experiences with yoga, tai chi, gymnastics, swimming and dance to create these unique  movement principles.

Gyrokinesis exercises are done seated on a stool, standing, and sitting or lying on the floor. Classes work the entire body, moving through all the elements of spinal movement: forward, backward, side bend, twist, and circular movement. This systematically and gently works the joints and muscles through their full ranges of motion, energizing the body and spirit. Movements are smoothly connected through the use of breath, making exercises appear and feel like a moving meditation.

Gyrokinesis classes are 90 minutes long. Each class begins on a stool with a gentle warm up sequence to awaken the senses and stimulate the energetic system. This is followed by a series of fluid spinal motions, which increase the spinal range of motion and warm up the body.  Class continues on the floor with exercises that expand on the spinal motions, gradually adding more difficult movements, incorporating more of the hips, shoulders, hands, and feet. The corresponding breathing patterns practiced during each sequence stimulate the nervous system, open up energy pathways, and oxygenate the blood. The class then ends with an unwinding sequence, transitioning the mind and body back into the every day world.
